The perfect horror combination, wrapped up in the perfect wit of Jeff Strand. Clowns vs. Spiders is a skin crawling horror that will force you to face the impossible question: Could I survive a wave of man-eating spiders? And more importantly, could I do it in clown shoes? Let’s find out!

What Is Clowns Vs. Spiders About?
Alright, so the book isn’t actually about man-eating spiders. It’s more about millions of tiny, poisonous eight-legged freaks taking over a town and the trope of clowns that are desperate to survive them.
All these scary clowns are really ruining the business for the old fashioned pie-in-the-face clowns. All Jaunty The Clown wanted was to entertain children, but after him and his clown-family get kicked from their circus show, he’s forced to make some changes. Jaunty starts working at a horror attraction, and just as he’s starting to get into the swing of things— BAM! The town is invaded by poisonous spiders. It’s happened to the best of us.
Clowns Vs. Spiders follows a desperate attempt to survive. And when punctuated with Jeff Strand’s humour and quick wit, this story quickly becomes a stand out horror comedy novel.
What I Liked…
Overall, this was such a fun book. I’m really not a horror comedy girl. I don’t particularly enjoy horror comedy movies, and I don’t make it a point of picking up horror comedy books, but I always make an exception for Jeff Strand. He’s got such a fantastic writing style that actually leaves me laughing out loud. The dialogue is snappy, the sarcasm always hits hard, and I’m grinning like an idiot the entire time. The story itself is absurd. Clowns are actually using their giant shoes to squish killer spiders. But when it’s combined with this narration style, it goes from corny to captivating.
… And What I Didn’t
My one requirement for a five star read is that the book sticks with me and that it has a level of re-readability. And while this book is wonderfully written, it’s not especially re-readable for me. There’s nothing wrong with it, and I will constantly read Jeff Strand books when I need a pick-me-up, but I can’t give it a five star review on RBD in order to stay fair to the system. Don’t hate me!
If you are a horror comedy die hard, this is going to be a fantastic read! I promise!
