Rollator From Hell – A Horror Novella Review

Feeling like your trapped in your own body is scary enough on its own. When you add a haunted mobility device and the pressures of social commitments, you’re in for a proper scare. This week, we dig into Mo Medusa’s Rollator From Hell.

Rollator From Hell Book Review

What Is Rollator From Hell About?

After Marnie’s diagnosis of MS, she moves in with her grandmother for support (and the benefit of her ADA compliant home). Her body is changing, and as if she didn’t have enough mental baggage to sort through by picking up a (gently used) mobility aid at the age of 30, she’s now got another problem to deal with. The rollator is haunted, and it’s out for blood.

This is a wonderful little KU story about the struggles that come with chronic illness, the isolation so many people face, and the small comforts that are the rock through it all.

Things I Loved…

This is an amazing book for someone who’s looking for something light to take a break between heavier books. It doesn’t shy away from heavy topics and digs into the shame we can relate to failing health, but at it’s core, it’s a gooey, heartfelt story. In a very short amount of time, I think the author does a great job of digging into the relationships of Marnie and her totally-just-best-friend-but-sometimes-they-kiss Carissa as well as Marnie’s relationship with her grandmother.

This book highlights the things I love most about horror. We’ve got a disabled hero that I didn’t doubt for a second, we’ve got a lesbian romance that felt so wholesome to hang on to when things go wrong, and I wholeheartedly believed the hearing impaired grandma was going to come out and kick ass. This is why horror is so lovely. Anyone and everyone can be a hero (and anything can be the monster).

    … And Things I Didn’t

Honestly, there’s nothing to hate about this book. As I’ve mentioned in my last few book reviews, I’ve been really craving some happier horror to balance out my TBR, and Rollator From Hell fit the bill perfectly. The pacing and length is perfect, the story deals with tough topics without being too heavy, and Marnie is just delightful.

    Final Thoughts

This is the perfect read for someone looking for something a little lighter. There’s no blood or gore, but there is plenty of spooky fun. If you haven’t read it yet, be sure to pick it up on KU and let me know what you think!
