When I saw this topic pop up on Long and Short Review’s Weekly Blogging Challenge, I knew I had to participate! If you’ve followed me for long (or any reader, really), you’ll know my TBR list is growing every day. That’s pretty much all I do on booksta. I’m taking this as my sign to confess some of my biggest horror sins and share the top 5 horror books I haven’t read (yet).
1. The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum
This is such an extreme horror classic, and it’s been on my TBR forever. AFAIK, this book follows the story of two sisters and is based on a true story. I’ve heard such amazing things about Jack Ketchum, and I know so many people have gotten into the extreme horror niche with his books. I’m definitely looking forward to it!
2. PTSD Radio by Masaaki Nakayama
If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ll know that I have been all about J-horror lately. September is already shaping up to a horror manga month for me, which means PTSD Radio is never far from my mind. While I’ve made it through a lot of the big names in horror manga, I still somehow haven’t read PTSD Radio. Maybe this month will finally be the month I finish it!
This manga takes the form of an anthology, but as far as I’m aware, there’s a bit of an overarching story. But as many amazing things as I’ve heard about the writing, I’ve heard more about the sheer spookiness surrounding the manga. Supposedly, the mangaka claims this story has actually haunted him in real life, opening him up to some kind of supernatural horror. Very spooky, and perfect for spooky season!
3. Dollface by R.J. Powell
To be fair, I did download this one and it is on the list for this month. Fingers crossed! But I’ve heard so many amazing things about Dollface. This story follows a doll who helps a victim of CSA take revenge on her abusers, and I am here for it!
4. Sacred Valley by Shaun M Jooster
I haven’t seen this one talked about a lot in the horror community, and maybe that sorta makes sense. When I first picked up this book on Scribd (back when it was still called Scribd!), it was actually titled Silent Hill. At the time, it was the licensed Silent Hill novel. When I went to look for it last year, the book had vanished. After a very strange legal battle (kerfuffle?), the book is edited and back on the shelf under a different (and legally distinguishable) title. Sacred Valley is definitely on my TBR this spooky season because I have been craving some Silent Hill vibes, and I’m hoping to get a nice book review drafted for it.
5. Dead Girlfriend by Jon Athan
This one is supposed to be absolutely brutal! And if you remember, I’ve been left traumatized by a Jon Athan book before. I’ve downloaded this one from KU already, and it’s just waiting for me to start. After a bit of a break from the extreme horror genre, I think I’m finally ready to jump back in and get another Athan review ready for my readers!
Have You Read These Books?
I’m so excited to see what other bloggers have drafted up for this weekly challenge! And with any luck, I’ll be able to add some more horror books to my (ever-growing) TBR. Let me know if you’ve read any of these and which one I should start with!

Great list, Jane. I can’t read these types of books anymore, but The Girl Next Door is a stellar story. Thanks for sharing.
These all sound great!
Horror fiction TBR? Well why not?
I love that you used horror. Great list!
