100% Match By Patrick C. Harrison III – Book Review

Get ready to squirm! 100% Match by Patrick C. Harrison III is a love story for the sick and twisted— sorta. This KU horror novella is a must-read for those extreme horror lovers, and for good reason. Check out the full review to find out why I’m still thinking about this book weeks later.

I have been on an absolute incel horror binge lately! I devoured 100% Match by PC3 last week and have been enjoying It’s Me Charlie by C.M. Guidroz. It’s such a small niche within the horror community, but I think with the changes in the reading community within the last few years, it’s really an interesting place to be. Dark romance seems to be getting more popular every day, and with it seems to come the wave of idiots in the comments. 100% Match takes so many of these MGTOW and incel thoughts to the extreme, and it’s an incredibly fun (and disgusting) read.

What Is 100% Match About?

Bart is a pretty normal guy. For the most part. He’s 30, he has a job he hates, he’s balding, and he’s looking for love. Apart from that whole ‘murdering ladies and grinding up dogs into hamburger meat’, he’s really just your average guy!

100% Match follows the story of Bart as he searches for his One True Love, and in about 100 pages, he certainly finds it. This story is not for the faint of heart, but if you’re a lover of extreme horror, this one is the perfect way to spend an afternoon. As a bonus, it will also help you quit that fast food chilli habit.

What Works…

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it 1000 times. Splatterpunk needs to have a good story. I am all for gore so long as it’s backed up by something (dog) meatier. And I think 100% Match really fits the bill. In a very short story, you get such a fantastic look at Bart. He’s a disgusting character through and through, and it’s such an uncomfortable feeling being stuck in his head. Throughout the story, Bart explains his reasoning with statistics. He’s got a stat to support every delusional thought he has about women and about finding his One True Love. And with every number introduced, it’s a stark reminder that to this man, you’re just that. These people he comes across are not people. The women he’s been able to con into dates are not people to Bart, and it felt so eerie as a reader. With every interaction Bart has, I found myself grinding my teeth to calm my nerves. In such a short period of time, I think PC3 does a great job of building up tension and creating a character with some depth.

…And What Doesn’t

As far as I’m aware, 100% Match is supposed to be part of a large work. And maybe that makes the length of the book make a bit more sense. The ending felt a little too rushed to be satisfying for me, and honestly, I would have loved to read this as a novel. I am going to have to do some follow up reading in the rest of his Pocket Nasties series, and maybe that’s the author’s intention, but it just felt a little frustrating as someone who adored every other part of the book.

I will advise you to check the trigger warnings before diving into this one! While it might have been obvious from the rest of the review, there are some themes that I know are full stop for some readers. If you can’t stomach violence against animals, this is not the book for you. And if you’re not in the place to read a story that features sexual assault, this is definitely not your One True Love. Put your mental health first.

Final Thoughts

Overall, 100% Match is an incredibly fun book. It’s gruesome in all the right ways, and it’s gross enough that it has wormed its way into my subconscious. One of my main requirements for a five-star read is that the book sticks with me long after the ending, and this story has definitely done that. If you’re in the mood for a sick and twisted search for love, look no further!
